Dabei handelt es sich um eine Art porösen Polyurethanschaum mit hoher Plastizität.
Es ist strukturell in die Oberflächenschicht mit hoher Dichte und den Kernteil mit niedriger Dichte unterteilt, die gleichzeitig in einem Arbeitsgang geformt werden.
Das Polyurethan-Selbsthautprodukt wird häufig in Sitzmatten für Sportgeräte, Turngeräten, Rückenlehnen, Kniepolstern, Griffen, Trittbrettern, Fahrradsätteln und Sportschutzringen verwendet. Es wird auch häufig in medizinischen Geräten verwendet, z. B. in integral geformten Sitzstühlen, Kantendichtungen von Operationstischen, Hängegestellen für Gegenstände, Rollstuhlgriffen usw.
Das Self-Skin-Produkt wird in einem Arbeitsgang mittels Reaktionsspritzguss (RIM) hergestellt und verfügt daher über eine sowohl haltbare als auch dichte Außenhaut und einen Cellulite-Kern. Die Dicke der gebildeten Haut variiert zwischen einigen Zehnteln und 5 mm und die Dichte der Haut zwischen 600 und 1200 kg/m³, während die Dichte des inneren Kerns Hunderte von Kilo pro Kubikmeter beträgt.
Die Hautschicht und die Kernschicht bilden einen integralen Körper. Die durchgehende, glatte und weiche Hautschicht kann den Schaumkern vor mechanischer Beschädigung schützen. Die Halbhartschaumserie aus Integral-PU variiert je nach Rezeptur in unterschiedlicher Dichte und Härte.
Das Polyurethan zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass es im Formprozess integral mit dem Füllmaterial versintert werden kann. Die grundlegenden Eigenschaften dieser Art von Schaum sind: extrem hohe Schlagfestigkeit, geringes Gewicht, hohe Produktivität, variable Härte und Abriebfestigkeit, dauerhaft elastisch, leicht färbbar auf der Oberfläche, leicht färbbar für den gesamten Körper und durch Einlagen intensivierbar.
